Chilo y sus Carnalitos

Biografía de Chilo y sus Carnalitos

Ysidro "Chilo" Cota is a multitalented, singer, songwriter and entertainer.
His roots are from the state of Sonora, Mexico. Chilo was raised in Gilbert, Arizona,
a small town near Phoenix.

Chilo comes from a migrant family where his mom and dad used to travel
from Arizona to California, and work the fields in
Merced, Planada, Chowchila and Fresno, picking fruits and vegetables.
Sometimes living in camps, makeshift houses that his dad had to make
out of wooden Fig trees, when there were no housing at the camps.
After the seasonal work was over, it was time to head back to Arizona
just in time to make tamales and menudo for the holidays.

His mom and dad used to sit around in the evenings with their guitars and
played old love songs and ballads.
Soon, Chilo would join them with thier musical instruments; then the
neighbors joined in. Before you know it, they had a full blown dance
in the dirt street. They would block off the dirt street, and
the dance was on. Neighbors and friends would bring their musical instruments
and join in. People from all over the farming community
would make it to the dance and join the fun. Those were fun times.

Chilo decided that the "fields" was not the way to go, and joined
the U.S. Army, where he received his G.E.D. Afterwards, he
took some community college courses. Chilo would go to school
during the day, and perform at Bars and Honky-Tonks at night, playing his guitar
with different groups. Chilo also played "requinto" with "Dueto Solo y Chilo of San Diego".

Chilo has written numerous songs, 4 of which are in his CD
"La puerta negra", 4 in his album "My Two Companions". Chilo
has opened two shows for the late Freddy Fender. It was
Freddy Fender that that encouraged Chilo to record his first
CD "La puerta negra". His album "My Two Companions" is a mixture
of Country, Latino, Louisiana Cajun and Blues. His newest album for 2016 is
"Una estrellita cayó".

Chilo has performed with Recording Artists such as
Little Joe y La Familia, Agustine Ramirez, Ysidro Lopez, Lalo Guerrero, and many more
in his younger days in Phoenix, Arizona.

Today, Chilo and his band "Chilo y sus Carnalitos" perform in various
casinos throught the state of California, and are highly sought after.
Their shows are usually standing room only.
