Biografía de Darek

Darek is a singer-songwriter and composer. Born in Chile, he spent his childhood and education in England, Israel, and Spain. With a career spanning 20 years—starting at the age of nine—he joined his school choir in London, where he learned to play the piano and compose music.

His parents were his greatest driving force, placing significant emphasis on culture and the arts. They played a key role in shaping Darek and his siblings by exposing them to different cultures, experiences, and the diverse flavors of every continent.
After being part of five different music groups, including one in Brazil, Darek made his solo debut in 2009 in Mexico and the United States with his album Soy de Aquellos, featuring only original songs written by him. His song DIME propelled him to stardom at a time when social media was not yet widespread. His success led him to perform at Mexico City's Zócalo, where he sang in front of one million people.

Darek has released five studio albums, collaborated on seven musical projects, and directed two short films. His most popular songs include Dime, Dame Más, Vuelvo a Creer, and Tú Vives en Mí. His single Por Qué Te Vas was a hit on Spain’s 40 Principales radio station.
Between 2009 and 2012, he dominated the Latin American music scene with hits like DIME, which became widely popular across Latin America, Spain, and the Spanish-speaking communities in the United States—despite the absence of today’s massive social media platforms. DAREK became the second Chilean artist to perform in front of one million people at the Zócalo in Mexico City, following the Chilean band Los Bunkers. This milestone further cemented his presence in the Mexican and Latin American music markets. However, in Chile, he never gained the same level of recognition. Feeling unsupported by his homeland’s music industry, he chose not to perform there, except for the country’s Telethon charity event.

From 2015 to 2017, DAREK remained highly active, releasing new music and composing for other artists. However, by late 2016, he decided to step away indefinitely from the music industry. He canceled a multi-million-dollar record contract and severed ties with his label, stating, “They treat me like a business. There is no humanity. All they care about is production and profits—nothing else matters.” From that moment on, DAREK became independent, leaving his artistic career behind to focus on his family’s business ventures.

In the years that followed (2023–2024), he shifted his talents to writing and producing music for a new wave of Netflix series. He also made guest appearances in two productions on the streaming platform.
In mid-2023, DAREK once again found himself in the spotlight when his song was chosen as the theme for the telenovela Corazón, starring the renowned actress Victoria Ruffo. The show aired on the U.S. network Univision, and his ballad Vuelvo a Creer became a signature track.

Despite his shift away from the music industry, DAREK has never abandoned his professional development or his family’s business empire, Macpherson Global. He has continued to expand his expertise in fields unrelated to music—a discipline that has been part of his life since he was nine years old.
Now, in 2024, DAREK is preparing for a tour across Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and the United States, with a special appearance at Ultra Miami 2025. Netflix has also invited him to make key cameos in three upcoming series, one of which will feature the iconic Mexican star Lucero.

In 2025, DAREK is set to release his first album in the mariachi genre, titled DAREK – Mariachi México. This high-level production consists of 15 meticulously crafted tracks. The lead single, Confieso, will be followed by La Malagueña, Ódiame, and a groundbreaking ranchera version of Antes de Ti, originally performed by his fellow Chilean artist Mon Laferte. DAREK’s rendition promises to break new ground with its unique and mesmerizing interpretation.
In 2025, he will embark on a tour across Latin America and Spain, bringing his new musical vision to a global audience.
